Beware of SCAMS relating to Ayodhya Ram Mandir

As the Pran Prathista (consecration) ceremony of Lord Ram’s idol in Ayodhya Ram Mandir is fast approaching (January 22), cyber fraudsters are manufacturing ways to deceive the devotees. People are getting WhatsApp texts from many people promising them free VIP passes to the ceremony, which are fake.

The message urges the receivers to download an APK file attached to the message which might contain malware and corrupt the phone. This might even lead to the download of applications that steal data from the smartphone including media files, documents and financial details.

Bilaspur police issued an advisory to avoid downloading the “Ram Janmabhoomi Grih Sampark Abhian’ app. Beware of malicious software and potential online fraud, and report suspicious messages to the police.

The Gurugram cyberpolice also issued an advisory asking people to remain alert. DCP (Cyber) Siddhant Jain said there had been several cases in various parts of the country, mostly in Uttar Pradesh, in which cyber thugs sent a link to free mobile recharge in the name of Lord Ram. People clicked on it and lost their deposits.

Some scamsters are spreading a message claiming to be collecting donations in the name of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Kshetra. A QR code is in circulation with the message that does not belong to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra.

Cyber crime wing, Hyderabad warned the citizens of India not to click on any messages claiming to be the live links or the Live photos of Ayodhya. They warned that if opened, these links may contain malware which can hack phones and compromise the bank accounts.

Central Consumer protection Authority (CCPA) issued notices to Amazon for sale of sweets making misleading claims of ‘Sri Ram Mandir Ayodhya Prasad’. it has been observed that various sweets/food products are available for sale on Amazon e-commerce platform claiming it to be “Shri Ram Mandir Ayodhya Prasad”.

Besides the WhatsApp scam, some fake websites offer complimentary prasad from Ayodhya Ram Mandir. Devotees are being asked by these websites to pay the shipping charges, but they are not authentic. The authentic website, where donations can be made for the Ayodhya Ram Mandir belongs to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra.
