Fact Check: Viral Video of Man Being Sprayed for Public Urination is Not from Indore, But from Peru

Indore is renowned for its exceptional cleanliness and has been consistently ranked as the cleanest city in India for the past seven years. President Droupadi Murmu presented the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 awards at a ceremony in New Delhi.

Indore city boasts a comprehensive waste management system, including door-to-door garbage collection and waste segregation at the source, with a focus on recycling and composting. Indore has implemented public awareness campaigns to encourage residents to participate in maintaining cleanliness. Indore has incorporated technology, such as CCTV cameras to monitor littering and digital monitoring of water harvesting units. The city's success is also attributed to the strong partnership between the local administration and residents who actively contribute to keeping the city clean. Indore has introduced unique initiatives like the "garbage café," where plastic waste can be exchanged for food, promoting waste reduction and community engagement.

A video showing a water tanker pouring water on a man as a punishment for trying to urinate publicly on a street is in circulation on social media with captions in Hindi and English. The caption goes as “That's why Indore comes at number 1. Jahan warning nahi, direct washing hoti hai!”



The claim in Hindi goes as “इसीलिए इंदौर हमेशा सफाई में नंबर 1 रहता है”



Some other users shared the same video with the caption “इंदौर की स्वच्छता में इंदौर नगर निगम का योगदान सराहनीय है। यहां कही भी मूतने वालों को सही सबक सिखाया जाता है।”

The claim is False.

When we extracted the keyframes from the video and searched them using reverse image search, we found that the video was published on a Facebook page named Callao TV with the caption in Spanish:

“¡Increíble! Un hombre fue sorprendido orinando en la vía pública y terminó siendo rociado con agua de cisterna como consecuencia. ¿Qué opinas de este tipo de sanciones?”

When translated, it states:

“Incredible! A man was caught urinating in public and ended up being doused with cistern water as a result.”


Another Facebook page named Enfoco TV also shared the video on March 15, 2025 with the caption:

“😎#INCREIBLE | LO #SORPENDEN #ORINANDO EN LA CALLE Y ES #MOJADO‼️

Un hombre fue sorprendido orinando en la calle y camión aguatero lo mojó para darle una lección.

La particular escena ocurrió cuando un hombre orinaba en las afueras del tren eléctrico de Lima.

El aguatero no tuvo mejor idea que empaparlo en agua para que no continúe ensuciando las calles.

La escena ha generado diversas reacciones en redes, donde muchos lo ven como una lección para quienes ensucian la vía pública.”

When translated, it states:

“#INCREDIBLE | HE IS CAUGHT URINATING ON THE STREET AND IS SOAKED

A man was caught urinating in the street and a water truck wet him to teach him a lesson.

The particular scene occurred when a man urinated outside the Lima electric train.

The water carrier had no better idea than to soak him in water so that he would not continue to litter the streets.

The scene has generated various reactions on networks, where many see it as a lesson for those who litter public roads.”



We also found another Facebook video shared by Radio Contacto Sur – Noticias stating that the incident took place in La Victoria, Peru.


A report published by larepublica.pe states that in the viral clip, a man is seen approaching a bridge in the middle of the street intending to urinate. However, a cistern passes by, and a man riding in the vehicle decides to use the vehicle's hose to completely soak the man as a lesson.

The footage shows how the pedestrian, surprised by the incident, quickly tries to move away, but ends up even more soaked. The video also captured the surprised expressions of passersby, who hadn't expected such a reaction. The report concludes that the incident took place in Peru.


Hence, the viral video of a water tanker pouring water on the man urinating on a street as punishment is not related to India. The video is from La Victoria, Peru. The claim is False.
