Fact check: Fake Postcard Falsely Attributes Absurd Claim to Jagadguru Rambhadracharya

Update: 2025-12-18 18:17 GMT

Jagadguru Rambhadracharya has come under criticism on social media after one of his videos went viral. According to a published news report, he gave an unconventional “full form” of the English word WIFE, which many found derogatory towards women. His statement, in which he described a wife as “a means of pleasure,” triggered widespread backlash.

In the video, Rambhadracharya breaks down WIFE as W = Wonderful, I = Instrument, F = For, E = Enjoy, and interprets this to mean that a wife is a means of pleasure. He further states that only married individuals can understand this “true” meaning, and that unmarried people and ascetics should not comment on it, as doing so could lead to disputes. The video was originally uploaded on Rambhadracharya’s YouTube channel on 25 July 2025. Although he explained both the term WIFE and the Sanskrit word Patni, only the “WIFE” portion went viral and was widely trolled online.

Reacting to the controversy, RJD spokesperson Kanchan Yadav strongly condemned the remark, calling such statements an insult to women.

Amid this, postcard attributed to Jagadguru Rambhadracharya is going viral on social media. The postcard contains controversial statements claimed to be made by Rambhadracharya. It reads, translated from Hindi to English: “We are Brahmins. We possess the power to conceive without sexual intercourse. After marriage, we can conceive without sexual intercourse through tantra, mantras, and siddhis.”

We also found a Navbharat Times (NBT) logo on the viral graphic.

Here you can find the archive of the claim.

Fact check:

The claim is false; the Navbharat Times postcard quoting Jagadguru Rambhadracharya is fake.

To check whether Jagadguru Rambhadracharya actually made such a statement, we searched using relevant keywords. However, we did not find any credible reports or reliable sources supporting this claim. If he had really made such a controversial remark, it would have been widely reported by mainstream media, but no such coverage exists.

We then conducted a reverse image search and found a similar postcard dated 9 December 2025 on NBT’s social media platform. The colour, design, and placement of Jagadguru Rambhadracharya’s photograph exactly match those of the viral postcard. However, the statement shown in the original post is entirely different. In the genuine NBT postcard, Rambhadracharya is seen criticising West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The message states that he can no longer refer to her as his sister and compares her to historical figures considered traitors.

A comparison between the original postcard and the viral one clearly shows that the viral image was altered. The original text was removed and replaced with a false and fabricated statement, confirming that the viral postcard is tampered with.

We also found that on 12 December 2025, Navbharat Times (NBT) issued a clarification stating that the viral postcard quoting Jagadguru Rambhadracharya as claiming that Brahmins can conceive children without sexual intercourse through tantra and mantras is fake.

Many fact-checking organisations, including Vishvas News, have already debunked the claim and reported that it is completely fake.

Hence, we found the claim to be false. The circulating Navbharat Times postcard falsely attributes an abusive and misleading statement to Jagadguru Rambhadracharya. This claim is completely fabricated and has no basis in reality.
