Fact Check: Viral Video Misrepresents Chandrababu Naidu’s Remarks on Job Creation
While Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu is pitching the state as a hub for global investments at the World Economic Forum (WEF) summit in Davos, a clip from his exclusive interview with NDTV is going viral on social media.
One user on X shared the clip along with population statistics, arguing, “The population of Andhra Pradesh is 8 crore, India’s population is 150 crore, and the world population is 800 crore. Yet Chief Minister Chandrababu is claiming that he alone has created 20 lakh crore jobs in Andhra Pradesh.”
Fact Check:
The claim is misleading. During the interview, Naidu misspoke and immediately corrected himself, clarifying that the investments would generate 23 lakh jobs, not 23 lakh crore jobs.
When we searched for the claim, we did not find any reports in prominent media outlets. Had such a statement been made, it would have been widely published by mainstream media organisations.
Further, when we took a screenshot and conducted a reverse image search, we found that the video had been uploaded on social media.
A review of the full NDTV interview on X, uploaded on January 21, 2026, shows that around the 7:58-minute mark, Naidu initially misspeaks while referring to the employment potential from investments, stating “23 lakh crore jobs.” Moments later, he corrects himself and clarifies that the projected employment generation is “23 lakh jobs.”
While analysing the clip, we found that the interview, conducted by NDTV Editor-in-Chief Rahul Kanwal, focused on Andhra Pradesh’s development roadmap, infrastructure expansion, and long-term wealth creation strategy. During the discussion, Naidu repeatedly emphasised people-centric growth, employment generation, and sustainable economic planning.
However, the shortened clips circulating online remove this clarification and present the verbal slip as a standalone statement, thereby distorting the context of the conversation.
Chandrababu Naidu did not claim that Andhra Pradesh would generate 23 lakh crore jobs. The viral video captures a brief verbal slip from the NDTV interview, which he immediately corrected to 23 lakh jobs. Therefore, the claim circulating on social media is misleading.
We found a brief news article published on The Economic Times. In the article ET mentioned, "Andhra Pradesh will implement projects worth Rs 20 lakh crore across various sectors that will generate 2 million jobs over the next four years, chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu told ET ahead of a two-day partnership summit in Visakhapatnam with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)".
Earlier, NewsMeter also carried out a fact check on the issue and concluded that the claim is misleading, noting that the viral clip selectively edits the interview and omits Naidu’s immediate correction.
Hence we found the claim is Misleading. During the interview, Naidu briefly misspoke while discussing employment generation but immediately corrected himself, clearly stating that the investments would create 23 lakh jobs, not 23 lakh crore jobs.
