Fact Check: Viral video showing a man in white shirt thrashing a cop on duty is from Uttar Pradesh
A 29-second video shared on the internet shows a police officer on duty being attacked by a person wearing a white shirt. Multiple social media accounts on Facebook & X also shared the same video on their accounts with the claim that the person who is wearing white shirt is the leader of DMK Mansoor Mohammad.
Rishab Singh, a X user, posted this video on his account on Feb 7, 2024 with a caption: “DMK MLA Mansoor Mohammed beats up a police inspector on duty in Tamil Nadu. This is what happens when you choose a government based on castes, creed and language. Tamilnadu is on the path of West Bengal “
Another X user posted the same video on his X account with the same caption on Feb 19, 2024
Also, India News Network, a digital media network, shared the video on their YouTube channel with the caption: “DMK MLA Mansur Muhammad की तानाशाही l On Duty Inspector को मारे कई थप्पड़”
Fact Check: The claim is false. This video is not from Tamil Nadu and it has no link with DMK leader MLA Mansoor Mohammed. On searching with help of Google Reverse Image Search, we found this video has been on the internet since 2018. On further investigation, we found there is no member named Mansoor Mohammed in the Tamil Nadu DMK MLA list.

During the Google Reverse Image Search, we found the same video on NDTV YouTube channel where they mentioned “BJP Leader Thrashes "Drunk" Cop At His Restaurant In UP, Arrested” uploaded on Oct. 20, 2018.
When we searched with the same caption, we found several news channels & portals also published the news.
According to Firstpost, BJP councillor booked for thrashing police sub-inspector, his female friend in Uttar Pradesh's Kankar Khera
The TimesNowNews published it with the caption: BJP Councillor thrashes UP sub-inspector after spat at restaurant over food
All the above news stories were published in 2018.
Hence, the claim is False.
The video was recorded in 2018 when a BJP Councillor thrashed a police sub-inspector in Uttar Pradesh & it has no connection with any Leader of the DMK party in Tamil Nadu.
