Heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding have impacted various parts of India, with states like Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and others experiencing severe consequences. Landslides have also been triggered by the rains, causing further disruption and casualties. The monsoon season, which typically brings crucial rainfall for agriculture, is also associated with these recurring flood events. At least 34 people have been killed in the northeastern region after heavy floods caused landslides. Cities like Mumbai and Bengaluru are experiencing severe disruption to daily life. In February and May 2025, Himachal Pradesh experienced flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall and cloudbursts, causing significant damage in Kullu and other districts. The floods led to damage and the displacement of vehicles.

Gujarat’s early monsoon showers have turned catastrophic as incessant rainfall triggered flash floods, building collapses, large-scale evacuations, and loss of life across multiple districts. The state saw heavy rainfall on June 16, 17, and 18, which claimed the lives of seven members of a family in Botad, and over 100 people have been rescued from various flood-affected areas. Several videos have been in circulation on social media showing such incidents.

Fact check:

The claim that the viral video shows people being stuck on a huge rock in the middle of a river due to flash floods is False. The video is an AI-generated one. When observed carefully, we can see that the visuals are too sharp to be real. The number of people standing on the rock seems too large. The canopy of the trees, the bodies blending into each other, the rocks, and other environmental details give away the true nature of the video, which is AI-generated.

We partnered with the Deepfakes Analysis Unit, a part of the Misinformation Combat Alliance, to determine whether the viral video is AI-generated. The AI detection tool AI or Not marked the keyframes as AI-generated, which was confirmed by the results of the IsItAI tool.

When the keyframes from the video were checked using the IsItAI tool, we could confirm that the video is AI-generated.

Another AI detection tool, WasItAI, also confirmed that the video is AI-generated.

Hence, the claim that the viral video shows a real incident of several people stuck on a huge rock due to flash floods in a river is False. The video is an AI-generated one.
