Several cloudburst events have been reported in Hyderabad in recent years. A cloudburst is a sudden and intense rainfall event concentrated in a small area, often leading to flash floods and localized blizzards. In the year 2025, we have seen frequent events of cloudbursts in Hyderabad. A cloudburst hit West Hyderabad in the early hours of June 12, 2025, causing record-breaking rainfall. The University of Hyderabad recorded an unprecedented 148.5 mm of rainfall in just one hour. Other areas like Lingampally (114 mm) and Chandanagar (109.8 mm) also experienced some of the highest single-hour rainfall totals ever observed in the city. This downpour came after a nearly 10-day dry spell, which also resulted in the flooding of roads and flyovers in the city.

On August 4th, Gajularamaram received a staggering 151.5 mm of rainfall in four hours, demonstrating the city's vulnerability to extreme weather events. Heavy rainfall and waterlogging continued on August 5th and 6th, particularly in western Hyderabad, causing traffic disruptions and forcing the deployment of emergency response teams.

Meanwhile, several videos showing flooding of roads and flyovers are in circulation on social media, claiming that they show the pathetic situation in the city. One such video showing rainwater flooding a moving bus with passengers onboard is going viral on social media with the claim that the flooded bus is from Hyderabad city in India. A few users shared the video with Telugu captions like “రోడ్డు పైన, నీటిలో కూడా ప్రయాణించే బస్సు హైదరాబాద్ కు తలమానికం. ఎం సెట్ చేసావ్ మైక్ @KTRBRS”

Fact check:

The claim is Misleading. The video is not from Hyderabad; it shows a flood-like situation in Delhi.

When we searched further, we found an X user replied to one of the viral posts sharing the screenshots of the video with the caption that the video is from Delhi.

When we extracted the keyframes from the viral video and searched using reverse image search, we found that several social media users have shared the same video, tagging the city of Delhi. An X user shared the video with the caption “Delhi after Kejriwal. Kejriwal, despite having less than half an engine gov managed Delhi for 11 years far better than the 4-engine gov of the BJP !!”

A Facebook user shared the video with the caption “Wow, what a matter, Delhi's BJP's line government has built a swimming pool in buses.”

According to a news report published on July 10, 2025, heavy rain in Delhi and its adjoining areas brought respite from humidity and heat. The downpour also caused waterlogging in several areas, prompting traffic diversions in some areas. Gurugram was battered by 133 mm of rainfall in the past 12 hours, with 103 mm pouring down in just 90 minutes, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue an Orange Alert for the region.

Even though there have been several incidents of waterlogging and traffic jams in Hyderabad in the month of July, the viral video is not related to Hyderabad. The viral video has been shared on social media, attributing it to Delhi. Though we were not able to confirm if it is from Delhi, we were able to confirm that it is not from Hyderabad. The claim that it shows a bus in Hyderabad city is Misleading.
