Over 26 people were killed by terrorists at Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, including Indian Navy Lieutenant Vinay Narwal. He and his wife were taking a walk at the scenic retreat in Pahalgam when they were approached by the terrorists. After confirming his religion, the navy officer was shot dead in front of his wife. He was laid to rest with full military honours in Haridwar on April 25. His wife Himanshi Narwal made an appeal to the nation not to spread hatred and pursue peace and justice and urged people not to go against the Muslims or Kashmiris. Her statement was criticised on social media, with people raising many doubts. The Pahalgam attack further deteriorated ties between India and Pakistan.

Meanwhile, a video of a man completely covered in blood is in circulation that a Muslim family on their way to a marriage in Dehradun was attacked after asking his name. The claim in Hindi goes “देहरादून, उत्तराखंड: बंजारावाला में एक शादी समारोह में जा रहे एक मुस्लिम परिवार पर 5-6 लोगों ने लोहे की छड़ों और चाकू से हमला किया। हमलावरों ने कथित तौर पर उनका नाम और धर्म पूछने के बाद उन पर हमला किया। #alleyesonindianmuslims”. When translated, it claims “Dehradun, Uttarakhand: A Muslim family attending a wedding ceremony in Banjarawala was attacked by 5-6 people with iron rods and knives. The assailants reportedly attacked him after asking his name and religion.

Fact Check:

The claim is False. The video shows an incident after a car got stuck causing traffic jam.

When we searched for more information about this incident, we found a post published by the Dehradun police, where we can hear a police officer stating that the incident does not have any communal angle to it. The incident occurred when car broke down and traffic was jammed.

According to police officials, on 01/05/2025, on receiving information about a quarrel in Monal Enclave Banjarawala under Kotwali Patel Nagar area, policemen immediately reached the spot. There police got information that Anish Ali, a resident of Bhogpur, was going to attend a marriage ceremony with his family in Bharuwala Grant, whose vehicle broke down outside a shop in Monal Enclave, causing traffic jam. There was a dispute between Anish Ali and Sanjay Rawat, a person living in Monal Enclave. A scuffle broke out between the two sides, in which people from both sides suffered injuries.

In view of the seriousness of the case, Circle Officer Sadar, In-charge Inspector Patel Nagar, Station House Officer Nehru Colony Police Station, have been arrested. Clementown police arrived at the scene and the victims were taken to the hospital for treatment. Police personnel rushed to the spot to control the situation and restore law and order.

In connection with the said incident, both sides lodged a complaint at Kotwali Patel Nagar. All aspects of the incident are being investigated in detail by the police, further action is being taken on the basis of evidence and video footage. The incident took place due to the dispute caused by the breakdown of the car and the jam, but through social media, some people are trying to give the said incident a communal angle. The police are keeping a constant watch on social media and such people are being identified. Strict legal action will be taken against them.

According to an article published in ETV Bharat, the police recieved information about a fight in Monal Enclave, Banjara Wala under Kotwali Patel Nagar area. After which, Kotwali Patel Nagar police reached the spot. During interrogation, it was found that Anish Ali, resident of Bhogpur, was going to attend a wedding ceremony with his family in Bharuwala Grant. His car broke down outside a shop in Monal Enclave. Due to which, a traffic jam situation arose there. A dispute broke out between Sanjay Rawat, a person living in Monal Enclave, and Anish Ali regarding this matter. Soon, the dispute turned into a fight. In which people from both sides got injured. In a short while, three police stations, Kotwali Patel Nagar, Nehru Colony, and Clement Town, reached the spot with police force. Everyone somehow calmed the matter.

Therefore, the viral video showing a man injured arguing with some people is from an incident when a violent clash occurred due to a traffic jam after a car got stuck. The claim that people hurt the man after asking his name is False.
