Following the successful landing of ISRO's Chandrayaan-3 on the moon on August 23 (Wednesday), an image showing ISRO’s logo and India's national emblem imprinted on a rough surface is viral on social media.

It is being claimed that this imprint was marked by the tyres of Chandrayaan-3 rover on the moon’s surface. Netizens have shared the image with the caption, “Image permanently imprinted on the surface of Moon today onward as Tyres of rover has this imprint.

FACT CHECK:

We noticed the name 'Krishanshu Garg” written at the left-bottom corner of the image. Taking a cue, we searched for Krishanshu Garg's social media profiles and found his Instagram account. The same image was uploaded in his story highlights. However, it is noteworthy to mention that the story was uploaded before Chandrayaan-3 landed on the moon and it also carried a timer for the same.

Krishanshu Garg had also posted the image on his profile and clarified that the viral image is just an artwork. He stated that many are falsely claiming this to be “Real Imprints” shared by ISRO but the truth is that the viral picture of moon imprints were designed as a countdown for the historic Chandrayaan-3 landing. He specifies that the claim is fake.

At the time of writing this story, ISRO has not shared any visuals showing imprints made by Chandrayaan-3 on the moon surface. According to reports, Chandrayaan-3's rover named Pragyan will leave imprints of the ISRO and the national emblem symbolizing India's presence on the moon. However, no visual confirmation has been made by ISRO yet.

Therefore, it is clear that an edited image of the national emblem and ISRO logo is being falsely shared as an image showing imprints left by Chandrayaan-3 on the moon's surface.
