Fact Check: Viral CCTV Video Falsely Linked to Ahmedabad Plane Crash, shows Lebanon Hospital Blast

At least 290 people are feared to have died after a plane bound for London crashed into a residential area shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad Airport. Images from the scene showed thick black smoke rising into the sky after the Air India plane crashed, with part of the aircraft pictured resting on top of a building. Among the people killed were the passengers on the flight and local residents who were inside the medical college hostel.According to officials, all flights out of Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport were suspended following the incident. However, they have since resumed at a limited capacity. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also visited the crash scene and monitored the rescue operations.
Meanwhile, a video showing CCTV footage of a sudden blast affecting a building also shows CCTV footage inside a few rooms, where several items are seen falling. The footage shows black smoke rising right after the blast and debris falling onto the parked vehicles. This video is in circulation with the claim that it shows the CCTV footage of the hospital where the Air India flight crashed. The caption in Hindi reads, “Ahmedabad viman hadsa अहमदाबाद विमान हादसा हॉस्पिटल वीडियो #india #flight”

Fact check:
The claim is false. An old video not related to India is in circulation with a false claim.
When we extracted keyframes from the viral video and searched them using Google Reverse Image Search, we found that the video is an old one and is not related to the Ahmedabad plane crash.
When we searched for more details about the medical college hostel hit by the plane crash, we found several news reports showing the crash site.
A report by India Today shared pictures and videos from the crash site, showing that the Boeing 787‑8 Dreamliner first hit the mess building of BJ Medical College Civil Hospital and then crashed into the Atulyam Hostel, where senior resident doctors stayed. Both buildings suffered heavy damage. An image taken from the crash site showed that the tail (rear end) of the fuselage had crashed on the top floor of the hostel.
When we searched for CCTV footage of the area, we did not find any reports of such footage.We also found a tweet by the FAIMA doctors’ association showing the images of the crash site.
Then we extracted keyframes from the video and searched for them, we found a video showing the same CCTV footage shared by a Twitter handle of a news channel from Lebanon named Inews Channel TV on May 17, 2025, with an Arabic caption: “الوضع الطبي في لبنان بين الازمة الاقتصادية و الحرب الاخيرة - تقرير احمد عيسى,” which translates to “The medical situation in Lebanon between the economic crisis and the recent war – a report by Ahmed Issa.”
We found another tweet published on February 6, 2025 with caption in arabic, when translated states "Footage documenting the occupation's bombing of Sheikh Ragheb Harb Hospital in the town of Toul during the aggression on Lebanon."
An instagram account named gazanews mentions that the video shows blasts in the Sheikh Ra/Gab Hospital in Southern Lebanon, this post also was published on February 6, 2025.
We also found a tweet by PIB Fact Check stating that the video is an old video being widely shared on social media with false claims that it shows recent CCTV footage of the #AhmedabadPlaneCrash and the hospital where the incident occurred. #PIBFactCheck: The video is from Lebanon and has no connection to the Ahmedabad plane crash. The old footage can be accessed here: https://x.com/inewschanneltv/status/1923455123029742018 Always rely on official sources for accurate information.
Though we are not able to find the exact area and date of the blast seen in the viral video, we found that the video is not related to the recent airplane crash in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The claim in circulation is false.
