A video of Rahul Gandhi addressing a gathering is going viral on all platforms of social media. In his speech in the viral video, he can be heard saying that he spoke to Mahatma Gandhi.

The video is being shared with caption "इन्होने गाँधी ज़ी से डायरेक्ट बात की!

कि आखिर 15 अगस्त को भांग-गांजेऔर दारू की दुकाने बंद क्यों करवाते हो तुम.....बकलोल"

When translated claims "He spoke directly to Gandhiji.. that why do you get the shops of drugs, liquor to be closed on August 15,..... Baklol"

Fact Check:

The claim that Rahul Gandhi told the gathering that he talked to Gandhiji is FALSE. Video has been cropped and a shorter version of the original video is being shared with a false claim.

When the keyframes extracted from the video are searched using Google Reverse image search, we found a longer version of the video published by The Economic Times in March 2022. The video is titled 'Don't accept failure till elections are over: Rahul Gandhi on Gujarat polls to be held in December'.

The description of the video states that the Gujarat unit of the Congress held a three-day brainstorming session called 'Chintan Shivir' to discuss a detailed strategy for the upcoming state Assembly polls.

By crosschecking the background, we can understand that the viral video is an extract of a longer video shared here.

When searched further, we also found an article by The Economic Times itself.

On the top right corner of the video, we can see Video Courtesy: Indian National Congress. Taking the cue from these articles, we searched the keyframes using the keywords 'Chintan Shivir Indian National Congress.

We found a video published by the Indian National Congress party's youtube channel. The video is titled 'Shri Rahul Gandhi's address at the Chintan Shivir in Dwarka, Gujarat'

Among other things, we can hear Rahul Gandhi stating about the relationship between Jawaharlal Nehru and Gandhiji in this video. His narration starts by stating that he read a letter of Jawaharlal Nehru which he wrote to someone about Gandhiji.

In the letter, Nehruji writes, 'I had a discussion with Mahatma Gandhi on this issue. And (in) my entire mind...my entire logic...is saying that on this issue Gandhi is wrong and I am right. But I know that...from within I know that my mind is telling me he (Gandhi) is wrong and I am right. But I know that he is right and I am wrong.
