While official government sources claim that overall urea availability in India is sufficient, several news reports indicate localized shortages in some states, especially Telangana. Farmers have been protesting in a few states by storming warehouses, blocking highways, and staging sit-ins. In Andhra Pradesh, the YSRCP conducted state-wide protests against the alleged shortage of urea. The party accused the ruling TDP government of mismanaging fertilizer supply and allowing black marketing. However, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and government officials denied these allegations, stating that sufficient stocks were available and that any issues were due to distribution disruptions.
Amid this, a video began circulating on social media, claiming that CM Chandrababu Naidu warned farmers they would be jailed if they asked for urea. In the video, he is also heard saying that “farmers should act like farmers and not use urea heavily, as excessive use of fertilizers and pesticides causes cancer. When used excessively, no one buys the product.”

Fact Check:
The claim is False. The viral video is edited. When we searched using the keywords “AP CM + Urea,” we found several YouTube channels that had published CM Chandrababu Naidu’s press meet on September 3, 2025.
Here is the original video published by Telugu Desam Party titled “యురియాకు సంబంధించి రైతులకు ఆందోళన వద్దు | CM Chandrababu Naidu Press Meet”:
According to an article published by Hindustan Times Telugu, CM Chandrababu Naidu clarified that fertilizers were available in every district of Andhra Pradesh. He said that some people were diverting urea and cases were registered against them.
ETV Bharat also reported that CM Chandrababu Naidu lashed out at groups spreading false propaganda. He said the government’s goal was to ensure timely fertilizer supply to every farmer. He warned of strict action against those deliberately diverting fertilizers and creating panic with misinformation.
The official AP Fact Check handle also debunked the viral claim. It clarified that the CM’s words were twisted and edited. The Chief Minister was speaking about conspirators spreading fake news about urea availability, not about farmers. The statement in Telugu clearly reads that neither farmers nor the public should believe or share such fake videos, and strict legal action would be taken against those creating and circulating them.
The claim that Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu warned farmers that they would be jailed if they asked for urea is False. The viral video is edited. In reality, the CM was addressing the issue of fake propaganda and conspirators spreading misinformation, not warning farmers.
