Fact Check: Insta story stating Virat Kohli expressed solidarity with Gaza victims is FAKE
Virat Kohli did not post anything online in support of Gaza,, nor did he dedicate his 49th ODI hundred to those affected by the conflict.
A screenshot allegedly showing an Instagram story posted by Indian cricketer Virat Kohli in support of Gaza is viral online. Netizens claim Kohli dedicated his 49th One Day International (ODI) hundred to those affected by the conflict.
Kohli scored his 49th ODI ton earlier this month in the ODI World Cup match against South Africa.
X users (formerly known as Twitter) posted the screenshot purportedly showing Kohli posting a graphic that reads, "In solidarity with Gaza". (View archives here and here)
FACT CHECK:
We found that the viral Instagram screenshot of the story is fake and that Virat Kohli did not post anything in support of Gaza after scoring his 49th ODI hundred. No such story was found on Kohli's official Instagram account. If the cricketer had indeed posted such a story, there would have been several other screenshots or news reports. However, no news reports or screenshots suggesting it were found.
The same was also debunked by BOOM Fact Check stating that the viral screenshot of the Instagram story is fake and no such story was posted by Virat Kohli after his 49th ODI hundred.
At the time of writing this story, Kohli has not posted anything on the Israel - Hamas conflict.
Evidently, the viral screenshot is fake.
