Fact Check: CM Revanth Reddy did not insult Congress Minister Mohammad Azharuddin

Viral social media posts claiming that Telangana CM Revanth Reddy insulted Minister Mohammad Azharuddin are false.

Former Indian cricket team captain Mohammad Azharuddin has been appointed as a minister. He joined the Telangana state cabinet led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.

Azharuddin earlier represented the Moradabad Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh eleven years ago. His political journey began with the Indian National Congress. He contested Parliament elections twice and once contested an Assembly election. He won only once  from the Moradabad Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh as a Congress candidate in the 2009 General Elections. Later, in 2014, he contested from Tonk–Sawai Madhopur constituency in Rajasthan but lost. In the 2023 Telangana Assembly Elections, he contested from Jubilee Hills constituency but was defeated.

After losing the Jubilee Hills Assembly election held two years ago, Azharuddin expressed interest in contesting the by-election again. However, the Congress leadership decided not to field him and instead recommended his name for nomination as a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) under the Governor’s quota.

Viral Claim on Social Media:

Now, several posts are going viral on social media claiming that Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy insulted Mohammad Azharuddin. According to these posts, Revanth Reddy allegedly ignored Azharuddin even when the latter greeted him with folded hands.

The posts read:

Fact Checking:

The viral posts claiming that CM Revanth Reddy insulted Mohammad Azharuddin are false and misleading. In reality, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Mohammad Azharuddin were seen greeting each other warmly and shaking hands.

To verify the authenticity of the viral claims, the screenshot from the video was taken and subjected to a Google Reverse Image Search. The search results revealed that the visuals were from a public meeting held at Borabanda in Hyderabad.

These videos were streamed Live V6 News by, which titled its broadcast:

“CM Revanth Reddy Live: Participate in Rally and Corner Meeting at Borabanda | Jubilee Hills Bypoll | V6 News.”

At the 41:25-minute mark of this video, CM Revanth Reddy is seen speaking warmly and shaking hands with Mohammad Azharuddin. There is no evidence of any insult or disrespect in the footage.

During the Borabanda public meeting, CM Revanth Reddy addressed the crowd and announced that the main junction in Borabanda would henceforth be named “PJR Borabanda Chowrastha.” He also declared that a statue of P. Janardhan Reddy (PJR) would be installed there and that he himself would unveil it.

Revanth Reddy also criticised the previous government during his speech.

To further verify whether any incident of insult occurred, a Google search was conducted using relevant keywords such as “CM RevanthReddy insults Azharuddin” and “Azharuddin ignored by CM.” No credible news reports or reliable sources supported this claim.

If such an incident had actually occurred, it would undoubtedly have been covered widely in the media.

Hence, the claim circulating on social media that Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy insulted Congress Minister Mohammad Azharuddin is completely false.

The viral video is being shared out of context to mislead the public. The original footage clearly shows CM Revanth Reddy greeting and shaking hands with Azharuddin in a friendly manner.
