The slogan ‘Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod’ translates to ‘Vote Thief, Leave the Throne’. It is a political slogan used by the Indian National Congress party during widespread protests in 2025, following the 2025 Lok Sabha elections. Congress and other opposition parties have accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of engaging in electoral fraud and manipulating voter lists in the 2025 general election. Specific allegations from party leader Rahul Gandhi included claims of irregularities like the deletion of voters and fraudulent voter list entries in states such as Maharashtra and Karnataka. By chanting ‘Vote Thief, Leave the Throne,’ the opposition is demanding that the alleged “vote thieves” (the BJP) should step down from power.
The Congress party launched a nationwide "Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod" campaign, featuring protests, signature drives, and rallies across many states, including Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. The party has sought to mobilize public pressure to challenge the integrity of the electoral system. The BJP and the ECI have denied the allegations of vote-rigging, with BJP leaders calling Gandhi's claims "incorrect and baseless."
But meanwhile, a video showing people shouting ‘Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod’ and tearing off the banners on a campaign vehicle is going viral on social media platforms with the claim that the video is recent and related to the ‘Vote Chori’ protests.
The video is shared with the caption in Hindi “"वोट चोर गद्दी छोड़" के नारे ने देश में क्रांति छेड़ दी है। भाजपा का ब्रांडिंग वैन भी खदेड़ा जा रहा!” When translated, it reads, “The slogan ‘Vote Thief, Leave the Throne’ has sparked a revolution in the country. Even BJP’s branding van is being chased away!”

Fact Check:
The claim is Misleading. The video is not recent and is not related to the ‘Vote Chori’ protests.
When we extracted keyframes from the viral video and searched using reverse image search, we found that the video is an old one from 2024.
We found a longer version of the video shared by a YouTube channel named Digital Bhoomi on April 17, 2024, with the title “सोनीपत के महमूदपुर में BJP प्रत्याशी मोहन लाल बडोली का प्रचार कर रहे पिकअप के लोगों ने फाड़े पोस्टर”, which translates to “In Mahmoodpur, Sonipat, people in a pickup van tore posters campaigning for BJP candidate Mohan Lal Badoli.”
We also found an X post showing the same longer version of the viral video.
In the original video, we do not hear any slogans about the Vote Chori protests. Therefore, the audio has been digitally added to an old video to mislead the audience.
Therefore, an old video related to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections is being shared virally after digitally adding the slogan “Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod.” No such incident took place recently. The claim is Misleading.
