More than 240 people were killed in a disastrous plane accident when an Air India flight from Ahmedabad to London crashed moments after takeoff in Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner was carrying 242 passengers, of which 169 were Indian nationals, 53 were British, seven were Portuguese, and one was Canadian. The crash occurred between 1 pm and 2 pm Indian Time, with the aircraft reportedly losing altitude soon after takeoff. One passenger in seat 11A of the aircraft miraculously survived the crash. The plane reached approximately 625 feet before it suddenly descended and crashed in a residential area. It struck a hostel building where medical students were having their lunch at the time. This hostel is a mess, located near a medical college. Right after the crash, scary visuals showing a huge cloud of black smoke emerged from the crash site.

Soon after this incident, a few unrelated videos started circulating on social media platforms, attributing them to the plane crash in Ahmedabad. One such video showing a huge cloud of black smoke and fire engines arriving at the site is in circulation on social media with the claim that it shows the plane crash incident. The caption on the video goes as “FLIGHT CRASH VIDEO IN GUJRAT LIVE SO SAD VIDEO DAKHO SAB”

Fact Check:

The claim is false. The video is an old one showing a fire accident that took place in Hanumangarh, Rajasthan.
Upon observing the viral video carefully, we found that the fire engines seen in the video had “Rajasthan Fire Service” written on them. The number plate also had RJ on it, indicating registration in the state of Rajasthan.

When we extracted keyframes from the viral video, we found that the video is an old one and was in circulation in May 2025 with claims that it depicts blasts at the Udhampur Airbase in Jammu and Kashmir during the India-Pakistan conflict.
Taking these points as clues, we searched further and found some reports about the fire accident at a chemical factory in the industrial area of Rajasthan’s Hanumangarh. The fire broke out in an acid factory in Hanumangarh’s industrial area. The fire caused panic in the surrounding area and was brought under control after several hours. We found a tweet by PIB Fact Check stating that the viral video shows a fire incident at a chemical factory in Hanumangarh, Rajasthan.
The caption states, “Udhampur Air Base remains operational. A video aired by 'AIK News' on live TV claimed that Pakistan had destroyed the Udhampur Air Base. #PIBFactCheck. This video shows a fire incident at a chemical factory in Hanumangarh, Rajasthan. It's unrelated to the current India–Pakistan situation. Stay alert. Don’t fall for fake news!”
NDTV Rajasthan published a video on YouTube on May 8, 2025, with the title: ‘Chemical Factory Fire: केमिकल फैक्ट्री में आग लगने से एक की मौत | Hanumangarh Incident | Latest News’
Dainik Bhaskar also shared a similar video of the fire incident in the chemical factory in Hanumangarh, Rajasthan, and reported that the fire took place in Hanumangarh’s RICO area on May 9, 2025, which ended up killing two workers.
Hence, the viral video is not related to the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. It shows rescue operations after a fire accident in a chemical factory in Hanumangarh, Rajasthan, that took place in May 2025. The claim is False.
