Claim :
A viral video shows a road collapsing and forming a large sinkhole is from Delhi.Fact :
The video actually depicts a sinkhole incident in Bangkok in front of Vajira Hospital on 24 September 2025.
India’s capital city, Delhi, witnessed heavy rainfall on September 30, 2025, causing significant waterlogging and traffic disruptions across the city and the NCR region, especially on arterial roads and underpasses. Airlines also issued travel advisories for passengers traveling to and from Delhi airport.
Amidst this, a video is being spread on social media with many users claiming that it shows a dramatic collapse of a road in Delhi, possibly linked to metro construction and recent heavy rains. Some captions in posts read “road collapsing in Delhi” and implied that underground works in the capital caused the crater. Several posts across platforms shared the same footage, attributing it to Delhi’s infrastructure failure.
Fact Check:
The claim is false. The viral video is not from Delhi. It shows a sinkhole that formed outside Vajira Hospital on Samsen Road in Bangkok on 24 September 2025.
When we performed a reverse image search on the keyframes extracted, we found several social media posts stating that this incident occurred in Bangkok, not Delhi.
An Instagram account named Manipur Files shared a post stating that a massive sinkhole measuring about 50 metres deep and 30 metres wide appeared on Samsen Road in front of Vajira Hospital on September 24th morning, forcing evacuations and traffic closures. The incident occurred at around 7:13 a.m. between Vajira and Sanghi intersections. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the collapse caused significant disruption. Outpatient services at Vajira Hospital were suspended, while about 3,500 inpatients were safely evacuated from nearby buildings. Authorities confirmed that the hospital structures themselves were not damaged. Nearby residents in apartment buildings were also instructed to evacuate as a precaution. Two electricity poles and a police vehicle fell into the hole during the collapse.
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) linked the incident to the construction of the Mass Rapid Transport (MRT) Purple Line extension between Tao Poon and Rat Burana. Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt, who inspected the site with officials, explained that the sinkhole formed above the Vajira Hospital railway station, where soil flowed into the tunnel. This triggered surrounding structures to collapse and caused a major water pipe to burst.
BBC shared another video of the same incident and stated that a giant sinkhole opened up on a busy Bangkok road in front of a hospital and police station, causing evacuations. Cars were left teetering on the edge of the crater in a residential area of Thailand's capital. The hole, roughly 50m (160ft), pulled down power lines and exposed a burst pipe gushing water, according to eyewitnesses. The collapse was likely linked to recent heavy rain and a leaky pipe, authorities told news agency AFP. Thai authorities confirmed there were no injuries or deaths.
Further verification reveals that in Bangkok, the sinkhole incident occurred due to ground collapse adjacent to a subway (Purple Line) construction site. The road caved in, pulling down electric poles, cars, and infrastructure. Local reports and international media confirmed that no casualties were reported, though damages to vehicles and utilities were visible.
When searched for information about any such incident in Delhi, we did not find any recent reports from credible media sources. Hence, the viral video does not show a road collapsing in Delhi. It captures the 24 September 2025 sinkhole outside Vajira Hospital in Bangkok. The claim is False.
