Fact Check: Viral Image Falsely Claims Man from Deoria, UP Married His Daughter-in-Law After Son’s Death

Here is the claim in Hindi: “यूपी के देवरिया के रहने वाले मो. शकील के दरियादिली के चर्चे हैं। शकील का बेटा 5 दिन पहले ही इस दुनिया को छोड़कर 72 हूरों की खोज में चल बसा था। पर मो. शकील ने एक पल भी बहू को उसके शौहर की कमी नहीं खलने दी और अपनी ही बहू के साथ निकाह कर लिया।”

Some users shared the same images with a caption in English: “Unbelievable but this is Mauzhub's reality. In Deoria, UP, Mohammad Shakeel’s son passed away just 5 days ago. What happened next is nothing short of shocking. Instead of mourning his son’s death, Shakeel chose to ‘fill the emptiness’ by marrying his own daughter-in-law.”

The claim is False. The elderly person seen in the viral image is a businessman from Assam.

When we searched the viral image using Google Reverse Image Search, we found a few news reports and videos published in the year 2017. A YouTube video published by HJ News on November 7, 2017, shares the same images that are viral on social media.

The description of the video states that the pictures of an elderly person and a young woman in a marriage are becoming increasingly viral on social media. It is believed that a man about 70 years old has married a woman much younger than him. Users claim that this elderly person is Rajesh Himmat Singh, director of Apollo Hospital. However, the person seen in the picture is a famous businessman Rajesh Kumar Himatsingh. He belongs to the Assam state of the North East. Rajesh Kumar was appointed in 1987 as the Managing Director for the first time in 'Himmat Singh Auto Enterprises Ltd'. However, these days his son and kin manage the business of the Himmat Singh Group.

Another YouTube video published by a channel named BB News shows more images of the marriage of the elderly person with the young woman. The video confirms that the person seen in the video is Rajesh Himmat Singh.

An article published by Dainik Marathi in 2017 also states that this photo is of Rajesh Kumar Himatsingka, who is associated with the state of Assam. Rajesh Kumar was appointed as the Managing Director of Himatsingh Enterprises Limited in 1987. Now, his children and relatives are managing the business. Apart from seeds, the Himatsingh Group is involved in many businesses like hospitality, vehicles, and motors. Their business is not only in Assam and West Bengal but also in other states.

Therefore, the claim that the viral image shows Mohammad Shakeel and that he married his own daughter-in-law after just 5 days of his son’s death is False. The image shows a businessman from Assam who married a young woman; she is not his daughter-in-law. He is not from Deoria, Uttar Pradesh. These images were viral in November 2017.
