Claim :
Viral videos showing huge blasts and smoke show Indian attack on city of Karachi, PakistanFact :
Both the videos are old and are unrelated to India – Pakistan tensions
Amid the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, aftermath of Operation Sindoor, a high alert was sounded in the national capital. Security has been reinforced with additional forces, and police are actively monitoring law and order. IPL 2025 has also been suspended for a week. India's S-400 air defence system, "Sudarshan Chakra” successfully countered a Pakistani offensive involving drones and missiles. The Pakistani forces orchestrated a multi wave assault directing drones and missiles toward crucial military installations and several cities including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu etc.
Meanwhile, several social media users are spreading misinformation, spreading old and unrelated videos and images relating them to ongoing India-Pakistan tensions. Telugupost has been debunking false and misleading narratives continuously in effort to provide accurate information to the audience and keep them informed. After India’s successful retaliation to the drone and missile attacks conducted by Pakistan, few videos are in circulation claiming that they show the visuals of the India’s attack on Karachi, Pakistan. Two different videos are in circulation with the same claims.
Claim -1
A video of a huge blast is in circulation on social media with the captions like “भारतीय नेवी ने उड़ाया पाकिस्तानी सेना का कैंप | #IndiaPakistanWar #IndianArmy #OperationSindhoor #OperationSindhoor2”.
Claim 2
Another video showing large crowd surrounding a place where huge cloud of smoke coming out in the middle of a street is also in circulation with the caption “India Launches Drone Strikes On Pakistani Cities Following Operation Sindoor”
Here are the archive links of the claim.
Fact check:
The claims are false. None of the videos show blasts in Karachi or any other city in Pakistan.
Claim 1
When we searched keyframe from the video using Google reverse image search, we found that the video shows airstrike by Israel. The image showing the blast was shared by several news websites in the articles published over the years.
According to news article published on Tasnim news agency in 2023, Israel carried out airstrikes near the Syrian capital of Damascus, resulting in the injury of a Syrian soldier, according to the official Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA). The projectiles launched during the airstrike caused injuries to a soldier and inflicted material damages, as reported by SANA.
A BBC report published in February 2020 which shares the same image, states that the Israeli military has carried out air strikes against the militant group Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) in Gaza and Syria in response to rocket fire.
Claim 2
When we extracted keyframes from the video, we found that the video shows fire break out in Sadiqabad market.
We also found that a Facebook user shared the viral video with the caption that translates to Fire breaks out again in Sadiqabad Landa Bazaar, water tanks of all departments including rescue are sent to the spot.
Here is another Facebook link shared on March 27, 2025, with the caption in Urdu translating to Landa Bazaar, Sadiqabad engulfed in Fire again.
Therefore, both the videos in circulation with the false claim that they show the blasts by Indian armed forces in Pakistani city of Karachi. They are not recent and are not related to India Pakistan tensions.
