At the 51st G7 Summit, which involves the most advanced countries of the world, held in Kananaskis, the leaders discussed topics ranging from international peace and security to global economic stability, growth, and emerging technologies. Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Canada on June 16, 2025, to attend the G7 Summit at Kananaskis, his first visit to Canada in a decade. Discussions with world leaders focused on crucial global issues, including energy security, technology, and innovation.
PM Modi, speaking at the G7 Summit, emphasised sustainable energy security, highlighting India's initiatives on the global stage such as the International Solar Alliance (ISA), Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), and Global Biofuels Alliance. Modi reaffirmed India's strong position against terrorism, expressing gratitude to the leaders of the G7 for condemning the recent Pahalgam terror attack and calling for collective action by the world against those who sponsor or encourage terrorism, as per the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
Meanwhile, an image showing the world leaders of the countries Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the US is going viral on social media with the claim that Indian Prime Minister Modi was not given a spot on the stage during the G7 summit in Canada. Fact Check:
The claim is false. The image shows the leaders of the member countries of the G7 Summit.
G7 (Group of Seven) has been a forum for the member countries – The United States, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United Kingdom. This group meets annually to discuss issues such as global economic governance, international security, etc. When we performed a reverse image search of the viral image, we found that the image was shared on the official website of the G7 2025 summit. The viral image was published under the G7 leaders’ family photo on June 17, 2025.
When checked further, we found more photos shared under the headline – Family photo with outreach partners, published on June 18, 2025, which shows several other world leaders along with the Indian Prime Minister.
We also found other photos of the Indian Prime Minister participating in the working lunch at the G7 summit.
Senior journalist Sidhant Sibal shared a post on X stating that the G7 has two formats. Day 1 features a photo with only the leaders of member countries, while Day 2 includes a photo with invited leaders.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself shared the image of him sharing the stage along with the other world leaders at the G7 Summit in Canada, with the caption:
“Together for global progress! Productive exchanges with G7 leaders on key global challenges and shared aspirations for a better planet. @G7”
Therefore, the claim that the Indian Prime Minister Modi was not given a spot on the stage during the G7 Summit in Canada is false.
