The Defense Ministry on 9th May, activated 14 of 32 infantry battalions of the Territorial Army - India's auxiliary military force - for deployment across the country till 2028.
According to an article published in NDTV, the Territorial Army is being called out for 'heightened readiness and strategic reinforcement', sources told NDTV. The order, from the ministry's Department of Military Affairs, comes amid rapidly escalating military tension between India and Pakistan over the Pahalgam terror attack. Man-for-man, India has a distinct advantage over the Pakistani army.
According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, India has around 14.75 lakh active military personnel and over 16 lakh in the paramilitary forces. The claim is false. Jalandhar Police confirmed it was fake news, there was no drone attack, just a fire in a garbage heap.
We investigated the claim of a drone attack near Basti Danishmanda, Jalandhar, but found no information to support it. If any such attack had occurred, it would have been reported by mainstream media.
When we searched for the keywords, we found that the Commissionerate Police Jalandhar had shared a video on 10th May 2025. The video was posted with the text, The alleged drone attack near Basti Danishmanda, Commissionerate Jalandhar, was proven false. It was merely a garbage fire, authorities urge the public to refrain from spreading unverified information and to follow official updates.
In the video, a senior police officer says: A fake video has been shared on social media claiming that the Basti Danishmanda area was attacked by a drone. We would like to clarify that our officers visited the area and confirmed that there was only a minor fire in a garbage dump. There was no drone attack. We request that everyone not to spread false information. If you come across anything related to this, please dial 112 or contact the local control room.
We also found that PIB Chandigarh posted on their official social media handles. No drone attack occurred; only a garbage pile caught fire. Stay alert, trust official sources, and follow local guidelines. said by CP Jalandhar.
