Balochistan is a province in the southwest of Pakistan. It is the largest province in the country by land area, covering 44% of Pakistan’s total landmass. Pakistan claims that India is supporting and sponsoring a militant organization that fights for greater regional autonomy in Balochistan.
Meanwhile, a video showing the National Assembly of Pakistan is shared with the claim that the members of the house belonging to Balochistan, are chanting pro-Modi slogans during the Parliament sessions, is going viral on social media.
The claim in Telugu “పాకిస్థాన్ పార్లమెంట్ లో మోదీ మోదీ మోదీ మోదీ...
When translated, it claims: “Balochistan MPs chanted Modi Modi Modi Modi... slogans in Pakistan Parliament. Even our enemy Pakistan is praising our Modi but some brokers, and loafers here do not know the greatness and honesty of Narendra.... Jai Shriram”
The claim is False. The video is in circulation on social media since the year 2020.
When we performed a reverse image search of the key frames extracted from the video, we found that the claim as well as the video has been shared virally since 2020. Upon using keywords like “Pakistan Parliament Balochistan Modi” we found a YouTube video published by 92 News HD on October 26, 2020, with the title “Shah Mehmood Qureshi Speech in National Assembly | 26 October 2020 | 92NewsHD”.
In the video, we can clearly hear the members chanting ‘Voting Voting’, and the speaker as well as the Foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi tried to silence the members, by stating voting would happen but that a chance should be given for others to speak.
According to BBC.com, Pakistani opposition leader Khwaja Asif, along with other MPs, pushed for a vote on a resolution condemning the publication in France of controversial cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad, which led to the killing of a teacher near Paris. At one point in the debate, as the Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi began to address the House, opposition members started chanting “Voting Voting”, not allowing the minister to talk.
The article also states that the short two-minute sequence was broadcast in the Indian media with the claim that the leaders in the Pakistan Parliament were chanting pro-Modi slogans in order to embarrass Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Hence, the claim shared with the viral video is False. The members of the Pakistani Parliament never chanted pro-Modi chants in the House. They were shouting ‘Voting voting’.
