Claim :
Viral video shows people of Muslim community donating money filled in sacks for the flood relief in PunjabFact :
Viral video shows the counting of the donated money in Pagla Mosque, has no relation to India or floods in Punjab
Devastating floods in Punjab have killed at least 37 people and left many homeless. Continuous heavy rains and flood water submerged over 1.75 lakh acres of farmland across nearly 1,600 villages in 23 districts of Punjab. Officials and experts have described this as the worst flood since 1988. Rescue and relief operations have been stepped up, and several celebrities, NGOs, and community organisations have come forward with donations of both funds and essential supplies to support the affected families.
Amidst this situation, a video has gone viral on social media showing people in traditional attire pouring bundles of money from large sacks. The clip is being shared with the claim that it shows members of the Muslim community donating money for flood relief in Punjab. One caption attached to the viral video reads: “हर सम्त पानी ही पानी था, क़हर-ए-सैलाब का तूफ़ान था। इंसानियत जब मुश्किल में थी, मदद को उतरा हर मुसलमान था।”
Here is the archive link of the claim.
Fact Check:
The claim is false. The video does not show donations for Punjab flood victims. Instead, it shows the counting of collections at the Pagla Mosque in Bangladesh. After extracting keyframes from the video and conducting a reverse image search, we found that the same footage was shared on Facebook on August 30, 2025, with a Bangla caption stating: “ফের খোলা হলো পাগলা মসজিদের দান বাক্স, মিললো ৩২ বস্তা টাকা, চলছে গণনা।” When translated, it reads: “The donation box of Pagla Mosque was opened again, 32 bags of money were found, counting is underway. #paglamosjid #paglamosque.”
Another post on Facebook carried the caption: “The donation box of Pa/Gala Mosque has been reopened #paglamosjid #kishoreganj #taka,” further confirming the origin of the video.
When compared carefully, the visuals from the viral video and those from the Bangladeshi posts clearly match. Longer YouTube videos also show the same counting process inside the Pagla Mosque.
According to local news reports, the donation boxes of the Pagla Mosque in Kishoreganj were opened on August 30, 2025. A record sum of 12,937,220 taka was collected after opening 13 chests, and more than 500 people were engaged in counting 32 sacks of money for nearly 13 hours.
Meanwhile, several communities, including the Muslim community in India, have indeed extended support to flood victims in Punjab. News reports highlight that relief material has been dispatched from Ambala’s Naraingarh region by members of the Muslim community. Celebrities and organisations like Punjab Kings have also contributed to the relief work, donating significant funds.
Hence, the viral video showing people pouring money from sacks is not related to the flood relief efforts in Punjab. It actually depicts the counting of donations at Pagla Mosque in Bangladesh. The claim is false.
