Surrounding this event, the Information and Technology Department head for Bharatiya Janata Party, Amit Malviya, tweeted that Rahul Gandhi did not visit a single Hindu temple in Kerala or Tamil Nadu during the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

He claimed that Gandhi, the son of a Catholic mother and a Parsi father, should stop the drama of "fancy dressing" as a Hindu as he "never bothered to visit a single Hindu temple" when in Kerala or Tamil Nadu during the Yatra but visited only minority religious places. (archived tweet)

This tweet was widely re-shared on social media.

FACT CHECK:

The Yatra began on September 7 in Kanyakumari and Gandhi visited the Vivekananda Memorial in the city. The Congress party shared a video on Twitter.

Gandhi met pastor George Ponnaiah at the Muttidichan Parai Church, Puliyoorkurichy and a few other Fathers and Archbishops. He also visited Parambayam Juma Masjid in Aluva, Ernakulam, and the St. Francis Xavier's Forane Church in Wadakkanchery, Thrissur. (Read more here, here and here)

However, no other pictures or videos of Gandhi visiting Hindu temples in Tamil Nadu could be found.

On September 10, the Yatra moved to Kerala. Here, Gandhi visited the Kannammoola Chattambi Swami temple in Thiruvananthapuram and the Thuravoor Mahakshethram temple in Cherthala, Alappuzha. Videos from these visits were shared by the Congress party on YouTube.
