Fact Check: Claims that a mammoth tree stump was found in Antarctica are false, it is SANAE IV base
The claim that a "giant tree stump in Antarctica" is from before the Flood is false. The structure in question is not a tree stump, but rather a rocky outcrop. SANAE IV, a research station built on this outcrop at Vesleskarvet, was constructed to endure extreme weather conditions.
Antarctica recently gave birth to a new iceberg and NASA Earth Observatory shared the incredible images of this fascinating tiny ice cube which broke off from the second largest George VI Ice Shelf along the Antarctic coastline. Notably, ice shelves are permanent floating sheets of ice that connect to the edge of a landmass in Antarctica.
The newborn iceberg, nicknamed A-84, is said to be measuring 210 sq miles, which is as nearly as big as the city of Chicago in Illinois. So far, A23a is considered as the world’s largest iceberg on the continent. The entire sequence of ‘calving’ of A-84 was captured in 21 images by the Observatory between January 15 and February 15, 2025. However, some days were cloudy and the weather satellite Suomi NPP as well as NASA's Terra and Aqua satellites missed capturing the footage on those days. During the period, the newly created iceberg has drifted 150 miles from its point of calving.
As explorers continue to observe the rapid changes on the Antarctic peninsula, a viral post shared on X claims that a mammoth tree stump has been found in the world's southernmost continent. The video was posted on X on February 17, 2025 and so far it has amassed over 150.9K views and over 1K likes in over a week’s time. The post has also been shared over 240 times.

Fact Check:
During the investigation, the Telugupost fact check team found the claim that there was a giant stump in Antarctica to be false.
We started our investigation using an InVid tool to extract the key frames from the viral video showing the helicopter footage of Antarctica. We then ran the key frames one by one through the Google Reverse Image search tool to find more information and we came across a similar video on YouTube posted on August 28, 2021 with a not so different claim.
