Fact Check: Viral Video Claiming to Show Closer View of Air India Ahmedabad Crash Is AI-Generated

Claim :
Video shows a closer view of the Air India plane crash in AhmedabadFact :
The claim is False. The video is an AI-generated video.
The Air India AI-171 crash in Ahmedabad has turned the spotlight on India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), the independent agency now leading the investigation. A multi-disciplinary team from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has commenced an investigation into the accident that killed around 270 people on June 12.
The AAIB investigation is progressing steadily with all necessary support from local authorities and agencies, the ministry said, adding that key recovery work, including site documentation and evidence collection, has been completed, and further analysis is now underway.
Seventeen-year-old Aryan Ansari recorded the footage of the flight crash of Air India Dreamliner 787-8. Aryan’s video, which shows the aircraft descending rapidly and engulfed in flames, is widely circulated and has become a crucial record of the final moments of the flight.
But recently, another video showing a huge flight crashing into a residential area is in circulation on social media with the claim that it shows an Air India flight crash with more clarity.
Here is the archive link of the claim.
Fact Check:
The claim is False. The video in circulation is an AI-generated one.
When observed carefully, we can see that the plane seems to be flying very close to the houses. The flight seems to pause before crashing onto the houses. We can also see several people standing on the nearby houses watching the plane fall on the buildings.
But according to the reports, the flight was airborne for not more than 40 seconds before crashing onto the hostel building of a medical college. When we checked the CCTV footage and other videos in circulation, we can see that there were no persons standing nearby when the plane crashed.
The plane reached an altitude of 625 feet and suddenly crashed in the area. It did not slowly fly very close to the houses before crashing. So, we can conclude that the viral video is not an authentic visual of the plane crash in Ahmedabad.
Taking a cue from this, we checked the video to confirm whether it is AI-generated or not. When we checked with different tools, we could confirm that the video is indeed AI-generated.
The first tool we used is ‘AI or Not’; the results showed that the video is AI-generated. Here is the screenshot of the results.
The second tool we used was ‘Was It AI?’ It also confirmed that the video has been created using AI technology. Here is the screenshot of the results.
Hence, the viral video showing the crash of a flight is not real footage of the Air India flight that crashed in Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025. The video is an AI-generated video. The claim that the video shows a closer view of the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad is False.
